United Centre tenants exempted from building management fees
Tenants of United Centre
in Admiralty will be waived from paying air conditioning fees and
building management fees for another three months as businesses struggle
during the latest wave of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The exemption will last until the end of March, president of the building’s owners corporation Freddy Yip Hing-ning said.
Also
the chairman of Hong Kong Travel Agent Association, Yip hopes this move
can take the lead and urges the other owners’ corporations to help each
other through the difficulties if possible.
This comes as
Urban Renewal Authority announced extending the rental reduction for
residential and commercial premises a second time for three more months
till March.
The authority’s managing director Wai Chi-sing
wrote in his blog today that with the rental reduction, tenants will be
paying an average of only 10 percent of their turnover on rent.
“Many
shops have to shorten their opening hours, or even shut down under the
anti-epidemic measures. We fully understand their difficulties,” said
Wai.
The 6-month
measure was supposed to end in September, but was extended for three
more months till December, benefiting over 720 shops. Tenants in the
resettlement buildings, conservation and development projects can get a
75 percent rent reduction.
Until
November, the number of tourists visiting Hong Kong in 2020 has
decreased by over 93 percent to about 3.56 million people, compared to
the same period last year, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
